A blog in my word is My Internet Diary.
A blog is to write about event, things or situation. Blog is actually web log, it is informational content (text, graphics or video) published on world wide web.
Generally a blog has routine textual entries "posts", which is something related to keeping or maintaining a physical diary. A limitation of a diary in terms of sharing is very little, often restricted within your family and friends. But, a blog may help you to extend reachability of your dairy with almost no boundaries.
Let me tell you with an example, if I maintain and write every day events in my physical diary then it could only be accessed by my family (wife, parents or sibling). When I make them publish on Internet via a blog any one who access the Internet could read by it.
Not only I can write in my blog, but others can also participate and share, which gives a platform for the collaborative work at single place.
